Doctor Who Rewatch and Other Oddities

Hi, F-List! How are you?

I just finished rewatching series five of Doctor Who like a month after the official LJ rewatch. I got so behind, but considering my apathy towards this season, it's not surprising. Anyways, I found that on a second viewing Series Five isn't so bad. Sure, the plots are still laughable for the most part, (I think I only love two of them--"Amy's Choice" and "Vincent and the Doctor"), and certain acting is still spotty (I'm looking at you Karen), but it does improve upon reviewing. When I first watched this season, I only really liked Rory as a character. The Doctor I was ambivalent about, and Amy was teetering on somewhat annoying to downright grating. And, of course, I hated River Sue Song and her condescending "spoilers." This time around I found I really liked Eleven--not as much as Ten--but he's definitely up there with Nine for me. Amy has also became endurable, though she still comes off a bit two-dimensional for me. And I've even found my hatred for River Song has given way to begrudging indifference.

But I'm still leery about her character. Moffat has potential to either make her really tremendous or completely ridiculous. I hope he chooses the former, but knowing his spotty track record, I'll soon be back to hating River Song. *sigh*

So now I'm moving on to Death Note, an anime I've tried to watch twice now. It's not that it's boring. It's just sooooo intense and the subject matter is soooo unsettling that my poor, empathetic body can only take so much at a time. I usually end up with my stomach in knots before an episode is over. But I'm resolved to watch it in it's entirety, because (a. My sister has a mad crush on L Lawliet (see icon), and will never forgive me if I can't muddle through the show. and (b. If I can make it through to the end, I will see the sociopath Light get his comeuppance, which is an exciting prospect. So we'll see how that goes.

In other news, I've been on a diet for the last three weeks. It's been working fantastically, so I'll give the whole scoop in another post for those who might be interested in trying it. :)

I'm re-watching S5 right now! I'm near the end then I'll be re-watching S1-S4 (and probably the specials too). I'm looking forward to seeing The Doctor and Rose again.

THANK GOD, I mean, I can't stand her character. Indeed a Mary Sue. "I'm River Song, Check your records again." Seriously? Are they replacing Rose Tyler much?

I really love Eleven. He's right there with Ten, in my list. I mean I adore Matt Smith and his funky hipster ways.

Amy, well, Amy pisses me off sometimes. I mean she gets on her high horse (typical Moffat female character, Sally Sparrow? Reinette? River? That's Moffat's writing) I'd admit I shipped her and the Doctor but then Rory happened (after my rewatch) I love Rory. He adores her and well, Amy really needs to be told not to snog the Doctor Rose's Man and love Rory. The only thing that bugs me is A/R chemistry. :/

LOL. For reals.

Yeah, I'm not quite ready to ship the Doctor with another person, yet. Maybe with Twelve. ;) I think maybe the uneven chemistry between Karen and Arthur is because of the writing more than the acting. The writers couldn't decide whether Amy truly loved Rory or whether he was a booby prize because she couldn't have "The Raggedy Doctor." After "Amy's Choice," I thought the chemistry was much improved.

A bit OT, but it's because I ship 11/Rose as well... maybe with AUs, I'm still in shocked that Billie dated Matt. IDK if you knew but they dated and it was around the time Rose left the first time on Doctor Who. O.O I can't ship Doctor/River, it's just wrong for me. lol.

I don't know, I thought it was the acting. *shrugs* Yeah we could blame the writing. Damn Moffat. RTD does it better. lol. Haters to the left.

Heh I'm with ya on s5. I've gotten used to a lot of emotion in DW, so s5 feels rather flat to me outside of the 2 episodes you mentioned.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I just have to disassociate season five from the previous ones. It's kinda how I compare Classic Who with New Who: two completely different setups, but essentially the same show.
